Blooma Blossom: Baby Tessie

Baby Tessie Rose (caught at home by Sarah!)
September 23
11:15 pm
7 pounds, 13 ounces

Papa says: Tasya had been in some form of early labor throughout the day, but felt well enough to go to yoga in the morning, a walk around the block in the afternoon, and watch a movie in the evening (Baby Mama, natch). Big Sister Eloise was sent for a sleepover at her Grandma Helen's. About midway through the movie (9pm), Tasya thought things were picking up enough that she left me to finish the movie by myself, and went upstairs to listen to her birth tapes and focus on the labor. I watched the end of the movie, including watching all the deleted scenes and the alternate ending (indicating either my easygoing nature, or a total lack of concern). When I was ready to turn in around 10:30, Tasya thought a trip to the bathroom and a warm shower might make her feel better, so I stood outside the shower and tried to be supportive. At around 10:45, her water broke so we rang our awesome doula, Sarah, who judged by the sounds in the background that speeding over was essential. When she arrived less than 10 min later, she suggested I call 911. By the time the paramedics arrived just minutes later, it was pretty clear that we wouldn't be leaving (baby's head was visible). So with the paramedics looking on, and one of each of us holding a leg, Sarah and Tasya heroically brought Tessie into the world, right in our bedroom, around 11:15pm. The firefighters who had also showed up by then carried Tasya & Tessie down the stairs; we loaded into the ambulance and (casually at that point) drove downtown to the hospital.

Blooma Blossom: Baby Samuel

Baby Samuel Edward
September 19, 2008
4:07 am
8 pounds, 6 ounces
21 inches

Mama says: Sam decided to finally join us one week late ... another boy for our family, which is so fun! He is doing great, eating and sleeping like a champ...it doesn't hurt that mom and dad are a little more relaxed with #3! It all went well, and I think I should have my hubby do some training to be a doula -- he did a great job! Thanks again for the great yoga experience. I thought of you as I did one of my many squats during labor!

A Course in Parenting: Meditation & More for Mamas & Papas

Join us at Blooma for a class about parenting, yogi style!

This past spring, Blooma and Lisa Bergly introduced the Swami Mommies program to rave reviews: "I absolutely loved this class," said mama Rachel G., and shortly after the course ended, Blooma mama Megan said, "Oh, how I loved this class! I am already missing it so much!" So we're thrilled to offer another session this fall--and to introduce a series of follow-up workshops exclusively for our Swami Mommies alumni!

Swami Mommies: The Introduction
This 4-week series of 2-hour classes explores how to bring0809_SwamiMommies yogic philosophy into your family life through the teachings of Kriya Yoga. Each class includes philosophy, kriya technique, asana, pranayama, mudra, mantra, and meditation. Learn how to take that next, conscious step toward becoming a better, more-balanced mother and life partner. (Dads are welcome, too!)

Swami Mommies: The Workshops
Loved what you learned in The Swami Mommies intro? Join us for more yogic love and wisdom about parenting and partnering in Lisa's one-afternoon follow-up workshops. We'll focus a little less on asana and a little more on lecture & discussion. (Please do take the required Intro session first!)

The Details
  • Swami Mommies: The Introduction meets 2pm-4pm on Sundays, October 5, 12, 19 & 26. The course is $125.
  • The Follow-Up Workshops meet 1:30pm-4:30pm on Sundays, November 2 and December 7. There's a different topic each month; watch the newsletter and blog for details. The workshops are $40 each or $75 when you register for both.

7:23pm
6lbs 7ozs
20.5 inches

Mama says: It was an absolute pleasure coming to Blooma for yoga. I learned a ton about my body & birth & so much more. Thank you for also providing resources such as Channing & her chiropractic services. Also, you found me a doula, Sondra Doty, who was an awesome help in the birth experience. My husband was so happy she was there, he would recommend Sondra (or a doula, in general) to any couple approaching birth. A few things I will continue to take with me into motherhood and to tell every pregnant woman i know:
-the secret is not that labor is hard...the secret is that women are strong.
-hospital gowns are for sick people, pregnancy is not about being sick.
-photograph that pregnant belly.
-be informed!! educate yourself!! talk to people!!

Orgasmic Birth: a documentary

Orgasmic Birth is a documentary that examines the intimate nature of birth and the powerful role it plays in women's lives when they are permitted to experience it fully. This documentary asks viewers to re-examine everything they thought they knew about giving birth and the potential it holds.

The way a woman gives birth has the potential to change how she feels about herself forever. The way she feels has consequences for how she mothers and cares for her baby. It has consequences for her other relationships and for society.

Thursday, September 25 - 7:00pm
Orgasmic Birth
Riverview Theater, Minneapolis, MN

The film will be introduced by Orgasmic Birth's producer, Debra Pascali-Bonaro.
Earlier that day, Debra will also offer an educational workshop: "Pleasure in Birth: Is It Possible?"
Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury, Thursday, Sept. 25, 1:30-3 pm
